Is Marijuana Really Bad For Your Health?
Recent studies suggest that there should be improved community health education about marijuana use and its effects on the body, after statistics show that 60% of 12th graders don’t consider marijuana as having detrimental effects on their bodies.
How Marijuana Affects the Body
Heavy marijuana use may affect brain structure and may cause poor memory. There are still studies and more debates that need to be done to prove that lung cancer can be traced to regular cannabis use. However, COPD is one of the leading causes of death in the US and in fact, marijuana is considered as one of its contributors.
While occasional enjoyment or medical use of cannabis doesn’t lead to the development of COPD, abuse or heavy use may lead to the said condition. Airflow obstruction, inflammation of large airways directed to the lungs and chronic bronchitis symptoms, are just some of the side effects of heavy marijuana use.
Effect of Occasional Use
Occasional marijuana users or those who use it for medicinal purposes, shouldn’t be worried on the negative health effects mentioned above. However, regular or heavy smoking of cannabis can lead to serious lung malfunctions and diseases, self – discipline should still be put into practice.
