Canadian Sleep Society 2013 Great People and a Great Conference
I have been attending sleep conferences as a delegate and exhibitor for over 20 years. These conferences run through a range from very commercial to very scientific. The Canadian Sleep Society has a very collegial and friendly feel. The keynote addresses on melatonin and Light therapy, Infant and Toddler Sleep Disturbances and The Study of Dreams Past, Present and Future were really informative. I heard an unofficial report that there are over 400 registrants (20 are Dentists) and 23 vendors.
As a Canadian who is fairly well travelled I don’t know how I missed Halifax. This is a terrific city to visit. The people are friendly and there appears to be a great deal to see and do here. I will make it a point to return as soon as possible.
I ran into a few old friends here Don Bradley CTO of Braebon, Natalie Moran President of Sleep Strategies, Patrick Strong CEO of Strong Dental and Kevin Gowanlock from President of Kego. The exhibit hall is well attended and I saw some new companies I have not seen before (Because I am new to the Canadian Sleep Scene) Snore Shop, Paladin Labs and MedSleep.
The best part of this meeting is the program. It has been designed to address the needs of all stake holders in the world of sleep. The program is divided into CME, Dental, Technologist, Student and CBT-1 so there is something for everyone. I am particularly impressed with the amount of clinical research being presented here. There is a full array of poster presentations, which in my view show a thriving Canadian Sleep society. Take a look at the program http://bit.ly/1bJtbN1
I rate this as one of the best sleep meetings in North America. It only happens once every 2 years so you have time to plan. The next meeting will be Toronto in Sept 2015 mark your calendar.
