Bob Rutan’s Notebook – Mr Sandman is waiting
Do you remember being tucked in at night? It was predictable and special; a routine repeated most every night of your childhood. First the snack. Next came the footed PJs, and “Don’t forget to brush your teeth”. Then the best part of all. “Pick out a book”, mom or dad would say, “and be quick…Mr. Sandman is waiting!” Such warm memories of snuggling in your own bed and drifting effortlessly into a blissful, deep sleep.
Now, fast forward 30+ years. What wouldn’t you give to have just one night of uninterrupted, peaceful sleep?Everyone has their own story. In our journey across America we’ve heard many. Debbie P. from Michigan, heard about the Dreams With Hope tour hosting a sleep awareness clinic at Sleep Solutions, Inc. She decided to check it out because she snores and is constantly tired! She also had a more compelling reason, however. Years ago, her now deceased father was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea. Sadly, Debbie’s dad didn’t stay with his CPAP therapy and developed another serious condition; passing away without ever knowing the benefit of improved sleep and health. As we continued to talk, Debbie made the decision to take the first step and see a sleep doctor. With a tear in her eye, she said, “I’m doing this for my dad. My grandmother also had sleep apnea and suffered from dementia, so I have a legacy to overcome!”
